Mathematics Cartoons

How can one become a game programmer?

My 11 yrs old son wants to become a game programmer. Where should he start? He draws cartoon series by pen, has used Movie Maker and is already good at using Macromedia Flash. He is very good at mathematics too in school.

Certainly being good in maths is an advantage to programming. I would have thought that creating flash games would be the first place to start.

I would also checkout codeguru.com for ideas and ask the experts in the c++ forum on where to start with game programming
