I hope you are talking in 3 dimensions, only.
Ther is a nice formula after you count the number of faces (F), edges (E) & vertices (V) or points
F – E+ V = 2.
It is called Schlafli’s formula.
For 3D, a minimum of 4 vertices is required. Simplest, tetrahedron has 4 each of faces & vertices; so it has 6 edges. For a cube it is F=6, E=12, V=8.
For a triangular prism (cube is a rectangular prism too), F=5,E=9,V=6.
