Business Mathematics In Canada
In ontario canada, do salaries vary based on the courses being taught?
For instance would a person teaching grade 12 english get less than grade 12 math teacher?
I am a first year student at york university and thinking of becoming a grade 12 English teacher but I need to chose two subjects. What other subjects do you recommend with English?
My choices are: Business Studies (Accounting, General, Entrepreneurship, Information & Communication Technology), Classical Studies (Greek or Latin), Computer Studies, Dance, Dramatic Arts, Economics, English, Environmental Science, Family Studies, French as a Second Language, Geography, Health & Physical Education, History, International Language (German, Italian, Spanish), Law, Mathematics, Music – Instrumental, Native Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Religious Education, Science (Biology, Chemistry, General, Physics), Social Sciences – General, Visual Arts.
Hi Mademoiselle
In Canada, payscales are based on amount of post-secondary education (in years) and amount of years worked as a teacher. What subject you teach has no impact on your pay.
Right now in Ontario, there is an abundance of teachers, especially English and Social Studies teachers. To improve your chances of getting a job, you may want to choose a second subject that is more in demand, such as physics, math or French. I’m assuming by your name that you are a french speaking female; this should help you out as there is a large push for female math and science teachers as well as anyone to work in French education.
Also once you become certified to teach in Ontario, you will be able to teach any subject, so while you probably won’t find your dream job as an English teacher for a few years, take other jobs in the meanwhile and then when an English jobs open up you’ll have experience and seniority.
Good luck.
